You don't need to be technical to find out whether your website is helping or hurting your business. Set aside 30 minutes, grab your phone, and work through this checklist. It's a simplified version of the review I do for the 60+ websites I manage.
Minutes 1–5: The first impression
- Open your homepage. Within five seconds, is it obvious what you do and where you do it?
- Is there a clear next step, like a Call or Get a Quote button, near the top?
- Does the site look current? An outdated copyright year or stale news makes visitors wonder if you're still in business.
Minutes 5–10: Mobile
- Open the site on your phone. Is the text readable without zooming?
- Can you tap your phone number to call?
- Do menus, buttons, and forms work easily with a thumb?
Minutes 10–15: Speed
Run your homepage through PageSpeed Insights (pagespeed.web.dev) and look at the mobile score. Then just use the site on your phone. If pages feel sluggish, customers feel it too.
Minutes 15–20: Search visibility
- Search site:yourdomain.com in Google to see which pages are indexed.
- Search your main service and town. Do you appear in the map results or the regular results?
- Read your page titles in the results. Are they clear and different for each page?
Minutes 20–25: Accessibility and trust
- Do images have alt text? Is text easy to read against the background?
- Can you move through the menu using only the Tab key?
- Is there a privacy policy, and does the site load securely (the padlock and https)?
- Are there reviews or testimonials that show real customers trust you?
Minutes 25–30: Test your contact path
Fill out your own contact form. Does the message arrive, and how quickly? Call the number on your site. Check that your address and hours match your Google Business Profile.
Write down every issue as you go, then sort the list into three groups: fix now, fix soon, and nice to have. That list is your plan.
Want a second set of eyes? I review sites for speed, mobile experience, search visibility, accessibility, and compliance, then give you a straightforward list of what's working, what's holding you back, and how to fix it.
